Monday January 10th, 2011

In spite of the cold weather, I spent a couple of lazy days this past weekend indoors, half relaxing, half puppy-proofing in anticipation of my beautiful black baby pug who we've aptly named Bear. Besides being adorable, he's a menace who has already managed to finagle his way into every nook and cranny in our tiny shoe-box of an apartment. Totally worth it. In addition, I managed to squeeze in some much needed Tv and movie night time, which just as well should be dubbed the worst movie's of 2010 marathon. The double feature, was comprised of M. Night Shyamalan's Devil followed by Oliver Stone's Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. Surprisingly, M. Night managed to not only produce a movie that was worse than The Happening, but one that was also less coherent. In a nutshell, Devil takes place in an elevator in which five people are trapped and one of them is the devil. Despite heavy religious undertones, there was of course the M. Night twist, which was as silly as it was anticlimactic.
Honestly, this guy should have stopped while he was ahead with The Sixth Sense, because everything following, The Happening, Lady In The Water, and most notable The Last Airbender has been, in my humble opinion, hugely disappointing.
Wall Street 2, the sequel to the 1987 hit Wall Street, took us straight into modern times in the midst of the 2008 economic crisis. Michael Douglas returned as the "greed is good" declaring villain Gordon Gekko alongside idealist and young business entrepreneur Shia LaBeouf. Charlie Sheen also made a quick cameo, whose character, interestingly enough, didn't stray too far from his real-life dramas. This film, while flashy and full of the Oliver Stone glitz, glam and quick cuts, was a catastrophic mess similar to that of the present day stock market, volatile and full of promise while producing minimal returns at best.

In music news this weekend,  Rihanna and Nicki Minaj hooked up to shoot a video for their collaboration “Fly,” on Saturday, and according to their Twitter feeds, things got pretty steamy.  Rihanna first Tweeted, “Me and Nikki in our new crib, lol! Gettin busy on set of FLY!!! Its so hard to keep my hands off!”  Nicki responded, "@rihanna lol. If we're gonna liv 2gthr and hook up u gotta learn how 2 spell my name! Lmaooooooo. ---- Gossip Gossip...just stop it!"  Finally Rihanna wrote “My bad, I'll make it up to u *wink*”  “Fly” is set to be the next single released from Nicki’s “Pink Friday,” which was recently certified platinum.

In other collabo news, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will reportedly record a hip-hop album together.  The pair first showed off their rhyme skills in the song “Boats ‘N Hoes,” from their 2008 film “Step Brothers.”  Last week Adam McKay, the film’s director, Tweeted “Are we currently working on a Step Bros rap album? Yup.”  Two hours later, he followed up with “I wasn't kidding about Step Bros rap album. And we just found out we have a crazy big time producer.”  No word yet on who that producer is, or when the album will come out.
